Poverty: a problem in our world

Poverty. A problem in our world. But we lucky people decide not to notice. We carry on with our lives, like there is nothing wrong. But there is. There are so many desperate people in world, that we do not even know exist. But they do exist. In fact, a famer once said there was a woman, in his mill stealing snacks. Not to eat, but to sell to make her children some clothes so they wouldn’t freeze. How does that make you feel?

The world’s population living in poverty was 9.6 percent in 2015, but what have we done until now, in 2020? We have increased the number to 12 percent. We have not just increased the number, but we have increased the amount of people dying. We have stolen lives, stolen dreams, we have stolen their hopes.

Those 780 million people live in poverty surviving on £1.53 per day. That’s one tiny meal for a family to share per day. A family of 3, 4, 5, 10, 20 people. And we walk to our fridge carelessly, taking out whatever we want whenever we want.

They could use a lot of help of help from people like us.

Burundi,poverty.

Mexico,poverty.

Uganda, poverty.

Chad, poverty.

Sierra, poverty. And… you know what, I think you have got the idea because that list could go on an on and on, and we still wouldn’t care. And that list is dangerous, and it’s hurtful, and it’s horrid. They are just humans like us. We all came from the same place, earth. So why don’t we treat each other like we are family?

We know poverty can lead others to death, but we chuck the thought away. You know what we have just done? We have chucked people’s lives away, their hopes and dreams away of having a normal healthy life.

Who are we to do this?

Globally in 2016, 63 million children, ages 6-11 years old, were not attending school. That is tens of millions of young children like me, in the world, who miss out on their education because of poverty. And, by adding children under the age of 17, the number increases to 263 million. That is the equivalent of 1 in 5 children that miss out on their education because of their living conditions.

That tells us if they don’t get education, later in life, they will have no job. And with no job they cannot earn any money. And with the worlds birth rate increasing, the number of children born into poverty increases and so on. If we do not do something now, this problem will get much worse.

For every 1,000 children born, 39 will die before they turn five years old. Nearly 22,000 children die each day due to living in poverty. There are 2.2 billion children in the world, and 1 billion of them live in poverty. In 2011, about 800 children under the age of five died every hour. Luckily this scenario is improving, but it is still nothing to forgot, and is certainly something we need to help change as a community, as the family we are.

Those children could have survived if we gave just a bit of our time to give essentials, such as clean drinking water or vaccinations. But we did not. I know I am just a child, one of many, but just take your time, and listen, and I promise you will not regret it.

If the world’s 100 richest people pooled their collective earnings in 2012, they could have ended extreme world poverty four times over. This is extraordinary. 4 TIMES OVER. See what we could have done. But, we did not do it, because we did not care. But now is the time to listen and care if you do not want this to get worse.

So, help me STOP poverty, a growing problem within our world.
