Our Heroes: NHS, Joe Wicks

My name is Cordelia. I’m 13 years old and we are currently in lockdown due to the corona virus outbreak. No one has ever experienced anything like this before; it so abnormal, strange, weird.

Currently, on the 9th of May, there have been 267,668 confirmed deaths and 3,786,484 confirmed cases worldwide. That’s scary.

I remember the last week of school when we were having a performance week, it was for Bugsy Malone, but sadly we weren’t able to perform because of the current situation, covid-19. Everyone was so gutted it just put an empty hole in all of us and left us on hold. This is what the corona virus is doing to everyone, leaving an empty hole in us, we can’t see out friends, family or carers.

There are things that can keep our spirits up though, like clapping for our carers, the NHS, every Thursday at 8pm. To kill the corona virus so we are able to see everyone again and able to go on our holidays, YOU need to stay at home, YOU need to stay safe and YOU need to social distance. This is serious and it isn’t a joke to those of you who are meeting up with your friends and NOT following the rules. No, sadly, this isn’t a joke, YOU need to be taking this seriously. Rules are rules and they’re there for a reason. In the UK alone, there are 30,615 deaths, that’s madness; people need to start taking it seriously.

The people that are keeping our spirits up during these strange times are as amazing as the NHS, people like Joe Wicks. Every weekday at 9am he does a really fun workout that is child friendly and he sometimes even dresses up and does quizzes to keep us sharp. Things like these get us up and running and set us in a good mindset every day. When Britain’s Got Talent comes on every Saturday the whole nation is watching and everyone just loves it, it lifts everyone’s spirits. There are the kinds of things that everyone needs to be doing, YOU need to keep yourself productive and active. There are so many things to do like writing a book or watching films, write a song, do some painting and most importantly keep social, facetime or find a way to keep in contact with you friends and family because it is so important.

Some of the statistics are really shocking, some parts of lockdown are ok, but a lot of it is frustrating. I get that we can’t go out and see our family and friends, but I have been socialising with my family and friends over text more than I sometimes do, everyone can make an effort to do this. So even though all of us are apart, these things are bringing us together, and this covid-19 is giving us some positivity.

But, there are some down sides for me because I sometimes ask my Mum, am I going to get the corona virus? Usually if I say something ‘stupid’ like that my mums says ‘no of course not’, but for once my Mum said ‘I don’t know, anyone can get it’. Now, as we all know, usually mums know everything (so they say), so this is quite a scary matter. But, as long as everyone stays home and safe this corona virus hopefully will go away as soon and as quickly as possible. Corona virus is a part of history and YOU are in it so make it count and don’t forget how much this has impacted the whole world, your actions could impact very small things but if we all make an effort, think how much of a massive change it could make.
